Amantra's White Tulle Gloves: Vintage Fashion Photos

2/4/14

Amantra's White Tulle Gloves:  Vintage Fashion Photos

I'd been on break, with school work and what not, but all the while I've been making these white tulle gloves with black feather trim. I got the inspiration for this project from a 1988 Ebony Magazine, where Micheal Jackson dawns the front cover.
There's an  advertisment for ciggerettes and a black model wearing a pair of white, transparnet gloves possibly made of sheer fabric, nylon or mesh netting . All I have in stock is white tulle, left over from other projects I thought would best substitute the material mentioned above. Then I remembered a pictuee of  Bette Middler I found online last year that presuaded me  to add the feather trim, which I created from sratch. I made the feather trim using  100%  polyester designer white ribbon, double sided tape, balck feathers white thread, and E-6000 all purpse glue.
The inspiration for the photo-shoot is for self-promotion intentions for my online store

You know I love the 1950's Hollywood era, especially  for its glamor photography, high and classic fashion, movies and actresses. This one particular photo of Marilyn Monroe was just the right direction I wanted to take this project in for the picture taking part, and here's what I came up with

I will have similar lingerie arm length gloves available for $22 at my store soon!
Thanks for all your support, your the ones I do this for!!!

My New and Improved Bullet Bra Pads

1/17/14

Everyone knows or should know what a bullet bra is. It's a form of women's brassiere that gives the breast a pointed and lifted affect by using wire, stitching, and foam. Bullet bra's were  invented in the late-1940s and became popular in the 1950's by actresses like Marilyn Monroe, Betty Grable, and Lana Turner. That's why this bra is still considered sexy, because of it's beauty and unavailability. This undergarment over time has become a piece of lingerie that I believe every diva and fashionista should have in her collection!

A  classic black & white photo of a glamorous actress wearing this type of bra to enhance her female silhouette, and exaggerating her features!
Last year was my first time at making this type of bra pad and here's what I came up with:

It was fairly easy to accomplish, all I did was cut the foam into the proper shape of my breast, stitched it into place and decorate the outside. You might ask why would one need to wear bra pads?
Well, for aesthetic, erotic, personal preference, among many more reasons unlisted, but this is my way of being "economical and luxurious" by making my own, instead of buy one online.
I've always been a fan of the 1950's for it's fashion, and I think I did a good job this time around with the new and improved version I'll be showing you.

here's my original outline prototype:

I used this green foam for the padding part I bought from Joanne's Fabric store for $2-3
⦁    black thread
⦁    dark colored Sharpie pen to mark the fabric and material
⦁    royal purple rayon shirt
⦁    white thread
⦁    pink/ white lace ribbon trim
What helps me tackle a project during the construction part is using paper and making a 3-D miniature version of the "intended part". That's what you'll see in the following picture along with the actual pattern.

Even though I manipulated the foam after cutting it, the patterns were a great guide.
so I did the edge stitching using Big Bertha (sewing machine) and it's not easy to sew with foam so it does require finest and practice, but I got through it.
It may look a little rough but nobody's going to see this part REMEMBER!!!!
So here's my new foam bra pads without the fabric!

For the rayon part and adding the pink and white lace trim to the edges was mostly done by hand. Sewing by hand requires taking your time and having patience, that's what I've learned and personally I need practice on patients, because I have none... LOL

Here are some photos of me modeling the final product ENJOY!!!

Bonus fun fact:
The jewelry you see me wearing is original and designed by me!!!
It took me about three days and I thought it would give my photos for this blog post a more professional appearance.
I will probably do a blog post my jewelry making process,
but until then Stay safe and thanks for reading

Take a look at some photos.

Amantra Revamps Her Powder-Room

1/9/14

So I  began planning to re-decorate the bathroom for my apartment at which I resign, around Novemeber/ December of 2013. Here's an illustration, prototype of what I envisioned the bathroom to look like before beginning this "ASSIGNMENT" :

My illustration with transparent sheet protector

my illustration without the  transparent sheet protecter

I got the idea about splitting the shower curtain from the way my boyfriend's mom bathroom decor is  presented. One day while  we were going over to her home for a visit, during the time I started to take applied arts seriously. I noticed in her bathroom, her shower curtains were opened and parted, and I though It that was such an awesome idea to replicate.  At the last minuet I decided to add the black organza material (NOT PICTURED ABOVE) o cover the transparent part.

The color scheme for the overall bathroom is baby blue and black.

I embellished the Dixie cup holder first, a week before Christmas of last year. I used Baby blue soft woven fabric-ribbon, then I  overlapped it with the black lace to give the entire piece an expensive appeal.

Before I began my project I was grateful to use my new pattern cutting cardboard that I recently acquired. I love it so much because I can now make PRECISER cutting with the cool measurements guide on top.

For the shower curtain I wanted to do something glamorous and gorgeous, so I decided to embellish the baby-blue shower curtains I purchased from the dollar store. The supplies used were:
⦁    4 1/2 yards of Black Organza fabric
⦁    3 yards of black lace
⦁    1 spool of 100% black polyester thread
⦁    1 spool of 100%  Baby-Blue polyester thread

I then took some  photos of the conceptual process:

So let's take a look at the whole appearance of the bathroom

you can see I decorated the three glass  vases (that I purchased from V.O.A for 90 cent each) on the counter top with black curling ribbon, glamorous $3-4 buttons from Joanne's Fabrics, and hot glued into place. Then for the flower arrangement part you see white, red, pink, baby-blue, blue-violet, black flowers. I put the spray painted black flowers towards the back, and threw in  glittery blue accents in each.  I  filled the vase  with clear oval marbles, and it turned out wonderfully.

Here are pictures of the my final result, Thanks for viewing!!

My Glam Sewing Machine Cover

12/26/13

An Amantra original:
I'm going to give my sewing machine Big Bertha a  beauty makeover with  a new slipcover!

This is my first attempt at creating  one a while back. It's made of red satin fabric, it was improperly measured and the stitching is horrid!
What you have here is the pattern for my new slipcover, something I didn't have working on the first one.

When  I began doing research a while back about applied arts, home decor, and learning how to sew, I came across  some information that talked about the importance of a sewing machine slip cover. It's used to protect your machine over time from dust and lent particles, and extend the longevity of it's function. I thought this would be a good, semi-simple project to tackle for practice. beginner's can surely achieve the same results by following the instructions on this blog post!

I create my own patterns, and here my slip cover one, i use plain white old bed sheet as substitute for muslin fabric during the construction/ fitting part.
Sewing machine length = 11 inches
Sewing machine height = 14 inches
Make sure to iron the patterns before using the "INTENDED" fabric.
I cut out the patterns and assembled the parts for sewing, but embellish the fabric with rhinestones before sewing.

 * press as you go*
I hand sewed gold sequins to black felt fabric in shape of "A" and "C" to stand for Amantra's Couture and added matching ruffle trim to bottom

......And the finished product

stay tuned for more
