Amantra's Valentine's Day Lingerie Dress

2/11/14

                                                      Amantra's Valentine's Day Lingerie Dress

I always try to be productive, and had this project in mind for a while. I had a deadline for its completion exactly or before Valentine's Days so I could take pretty pictures, and post this blog post on this special day.
Okay, so a little back info about my lingerie dress:

The blouse is of red lace, sleeveless, tank top styled with a pleated bottom portion. In the back, I created a medium heart shaped openning, back drop, velcrow enclosure.
The skirt is  mermaid styled,  of matching red lace and satin with centered black zipper enclosure at the back.
I didn't get to put the mini hearts on the dress as intended, but I'm glad I did get the dress finished overall!

Before I reveal the final photos, I'd like to recap the origin of Valentines Day.
Three hundred years after the death of Jesus Christ, the Roman emperors still demanded that everyone believe in the Roman gods. Valentine, a Christian priest, had been thrown in prison for his teachings. On February 14, Valentine was beheaded, not only because he was a Christian, but also because he had performed a miracle. He supposedly cured the jailer's daughter of her blindness. The night before he was executed, he wrote the jailer's daughter a farewell letter, signing it "From Your Valentine." Another legend tells us that this same Valentine, well-loved by all, received notes to his jail cell from children and friends who missed him.

interesting huh!

Well I made this lingerie dress out of a red lace long sleeve blouse from the local V.O.A.
I then came across  a soft cream colored,  silky, nylon slip that i wanted to use.

Amantra's White Tulle Gloves: Vintage Fashion Photos

2/4/14

Amantra's White Tulle Gloves:  Vintage Fashion Photos

I'd been on break, with school work and what not, but all the while I've been making these white tulle gloves with black feather trim. I got the inspiration for this project from a 1988 Ebony Magazine, where Micheal Jackson dawns the front cover.
There's an  advertisment for ciggerettes and a black model wearing a pair of white, transparnet gloves possibly made of sheer fabric, nylon or mesh netting . All I have in stock is white tulle, left over from other projects I thought would best substitute the material mentioned above. Then I remembered a pictuee of  Bette Middler I found online last year that presuaded me  to add the feather trim, which I created from sratch. I made the feather trim using  100%  polyester designer white ribbon, double sided tape, balck feathers white thread, and E-6000 all purpse glue.
The inspiration for the photo-shoot is for self-promotion intentions for my online store

You know I love the 1950's Hollywood era, especially  for its glamor photography, high and classic fashion, movies and actresses. This one particular photo of Marilyn Monroe was just the right direction I wanted to take this project in for the picture taking part, and here's what I came up with

I will have similar lingerie arm length gloves available for $22 at my store soon!

My Glam Sewing Machine Cover

12/26/13

An Amantra original:
I'm going to give my sewing machine Big Bertha a  beauty makeover with  a new slipcover!

This is my first attempt at creating  one a while back. It's made of red satin fabric, it was improperly measured and the stitching is horrid!
What you have here is the pattern for my new slipcover, something I didn't have working on the first one.

When  I began doing research a while back about applied arts, home decor, and learning how to sew, I came across  some information that talked about the importance of a sewing machine slip cover. It's used to protect your machine over time from dust and lent particles, and extend the longevity of it's function. I thought this would be a good, semi-simple project to tackle for practice. beginner's can surely achieve the same results by following the instructions on this blog post!

I create my own patterns, and here my slip cover one, i use plain white old bed sheet as substitute for muslin fabric during the construction/ fitting part.
Sewing machine length = 11 inches
Sewing machine height = 14 inches
Make sure to iron the patterns before using the "INTENDED" fabric.
I cut out the patterns and assembled the parts for sewing, but embellish the fabric with rhinestones before sewing.

 * press as you go*
I hand sewed gold sequins to black felt fabric in shape of "A" and "C" to stand for Amantra's Couture and added matching ruffle trim to bottom

......And the finished product

stay tuned for more

1950's vintage style pink apron

 12/23/13

Have you ever wanted to dress like a housewife would, well I have. June Cleaver may have not been a favorite feminine inspiration of mines but i sure did admire her fashion sense,  and  poise. I have always had an appreciation for vintage, traditional fashion design, and pop culture that why I couldn't wait to present to you my creation  with haste!

So I used this photo as a guide of what style apron i wanted to achieve. With good quality fabric purchased recently from the thrift store, me and Big Bertha (my sewing machine) began our journey to 3-D land with just a illustration and a theme ----PINK!

I worked on this project for about 9 days
I love the color pink so that was the main theme for the apron.

this apron is embellished with dark and light pink polyester ribbons, white medium trim. the back neckline is embellished with a medium jewel in the middle. This apron means a lot to me because it shows that my seamstress skills have drastically improved  with practice. Sewing does make me happy and it's where i feel the most comfortable
thanks for sharing my dream!!!!

thanks, stay tuned for clothing from my Delightfully * Delicious * De-lovely Collection
and upcoming vlog new sewing machine cover

I hope you guys enjoy!!!!!
